The Dorchester Collection is a luxury hotel management company, established in 2006 and headquartered in London, that owns and operates some of the world’s most famous lodging facilities. Operating en five-star hotels in the United States, Italy, The United Kingdom and France, the company”s properties include the Dorchester, the Beverly Hills Hotel, Plaza Athénée, Hotel Meurice, Principe di Savoia, Hotel Bel-Air, Coworth Park, 45 Park Lane, Le Richemond and Hotel Eden.
The Brunei Investment Agency, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Finance for the country of Brunei, owns the Dorchester Collection. Key officials within Dorchester Collection management are Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cowdray, Chief Operating Officer François Delahaye and Helen Smith, vice president of sales and marketing. The company gets its name from its London flagship hotel, The Dorchester, originally purchased by the Sultan of Brunei in 1986.
Cowdray has indicated that the Dorchester Collection would like to expand to 15 ultra luxury properties by the end of 2015. New York City is one of the locations where the company would like to reestablish its presence, having sold the massive 899-room New York Palace Hotel in 2011. Other locations in the company’s sight are Washington, D.C., Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Sydney, Doha, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Earlier this year, the Dorchester Collection won the Investors in People “Company of the Year” award at the Employee Engagement Awards. The award recognizes the best businesses in the United Kingdom and Ireland that strive to operate different to create an engaging work environment. Program winners are judged on the way the company implements innovative and strategic programming that can include social media, rewards and recognition and efficient internal communications.
In 2014, the Dorchester Collection also won four awards at the HR Excellence Award. The honors included the organizations prestigious Gold Award, best HR tea, and outstanding employee engagement strategy.
